On Wednesday, members of the Odisha Youth Congress attempted to surround the residence of Chief Minister Mohan Chandra Majhi, resulting in clashes with police, who reported that protesters threw eggs and tomatoes.
Led by state president Ranjit Patra, the activists marched towards the Chief Minister's home carrying banners and posters to protest against the alleged rise in atrocities against women and Dalits in the state.
They demanded the resignation of Chief Minister Majhi, accusing him of failing to protect the rights of women and Dalits. However, tensions escalated when police prevented the Youth Congress supporters from gathering near the Chief Minister's residence, leading to a scuffle with law enforcement.
A police official stated that the demonstrators hurled eggs and tomatoes towards the Chief Minister's residence. Some journalists present to cover the protest also became targets of the thrown items. Several Youth Congress members have been taken into custody by the police.
